The Janet Fund’s newest initiative ‘Reach the Beach’ creates public access defibrillation programs at New Jersey beaches making Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) readily available to the public. AEDs are life-saving devices used during sudden cardiac arrest to shock the victim’s heard back to normal rhythm.

The Janet Fund and Windmill Restaurants partnered together to donate two AEDs to the City of Long Branch. The generous donation of Rena Levine-Levy and Stephen Levine of WindMill Hotdogs funded the two AEDs which were placed at two of the comfort stations and mounted in outdoor storage cabinets. One AED is donated in memory of their parents, Leo and Eleanor Levine and the other is donated in honor of Mayor John Pallone and the 2018 town council. Mayor Pallone had heart surgery the night of the election.

Sudden Cardiac Arrest is a medical emergency where the heart suddenly stops beating. It is the third leading cause of death in the US striking 356,000 people annually. It impacts people of all ages and nine out of ten victims do not survive. CPR and early defibrillation are key to survival.

Local businesses can partner with The Janet Fund to bring Reach the Beach to their community. Jim Zilinski, Chairman of The Janet Fund stated, ‘Our goal is to make AEDS readily available at beaches throughout NJ and protect the millions of adults and children who spend time at the Jersey shore.’ The City of Long Branch is the first beach in New Jersey to receive AEDs through the program.

The Janet Fund is a not-for-profit 501(c) (3) organization dedicated to preventing sudden cardiac death in New Jersey youth. The Fund was created in memory of Janet Zilinski, an 11-year old Warren NJ native who lost her life in 2006 to sudden cardiac arrest after collapsing at cheerleading practice. The Janet Fund raises awareness of the warning signs in youth and donates AEDs to New Jersey Schools, youth sports and youth organizations.
